Obituary of Ruth Anne Slatcher-Burby

ALTAMONT - Ruth Anne Slatcher-Burby, of Altamont, passed March 19, 2023, at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was surrounded by loved ones. Ruth Anne was born November 17th, 1965, in Great Barrington, MA. She attended school at Berne Knox Westerlo class of 1983. She then attended college at Russell Sage class of 1987. She worked briefly in the field of psychology, but her true passion and life’s work was raising her children Elise (1996), Jesse (1998), Everett (2005) and Eren (2007). She was a proud leader of the Parent Teacher Association in the Guilderland school district, holding various offices including PTA president across the elementary, middle and high school levels in the 22-year span her children attended school. She was a huge advocate for public education and actively campaigned for funding, reform, diversity, and equality. Ruth Anne was also an active member in the Lynnwood Reformed Church community as a member of the choir and worship team. She loved music, and was a long-time member of Suburban Sounds, where she sang for more than two decades. She also loved to read, devouring nonfiction to feed her mind, and fiction to feed her soul. Ruth Anne touched the lives of every person she met with her gentle nature, her compassionate ear, and her quiet strength. She was the kind of person who could find the positive in any situation. She was generous with her money, her time, and her love. Her words of kind encouragement and wise counsel will be missed. Ruth Anne is predeceased by her father, Richard Slatcher. She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Czuchrey, stepfather Edward Czuchrey, sister Kathy Delaney, brother Rick Slatcher, and children Elise Burby, Jesse Burby, Everett Burby and Eren Burby. Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Lynnwood Reformed Church with visiting hours prior from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
