Obituary of Virginia D. Smith

Valatie, NY Virgina Olthoff Smith, "Ginny", 68 passed away after a 9 month battle with lung cancer and complications from a stroke at the Community Hospice, St. Peters Hospital. Born in Albany, she attended Albany Schools, and resided in Valatie since 1981. Ginny worked for the NYS Dept. of Law under many different Attorneys General, most recently Gov. Andrew Cuomo, retiring Jan. 2010. She was past president of former Kinderhook Elks #2530 ladies auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Jack Smith, daughter, Chris Welch (Michael), her dearest grandchildren Kyle and Tyler Welch, and also many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Olthoff, her brother, Richard, and her son Henry Joseph. There will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be held at St. Johns the Baptist Church in Valatie on Wednesday 11/14/2012 at 11:00 a.m. with remains buried next to her son in church cemetery following the mass.
