Obituary of Marjorie G.B. Crowe

Marjorie Bussert Crowe Slingerlands- Marjorie Glenn Bussert Crowe, 97, entered into eternal life May 16, 2013 surrounded by her family. Born in 1915 in Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. Samuel Miner Glenn and Eugenia Wilford Glenn. Her father died prior to her birth; she met him in heaven for the first time. Her mother died in 1973 at the age of 96 and was also there to welcome her with open arms. Marjorie spent her childhood in Connecticut and Ohio, graduating from Wooster College and working as a librarian in Cleveland and Middletown, Ohio, where she met and married Charles E. Bussert, a research metallurgist, in 1943. Her career then shifted to raising three sons in Middletown and then Hamilton, Ohio, a full time occupation from which she never fully retired. She came to the Capital District in 1967, residing in Niskayuna until Charles' death in 1974. She moved to Delmar and became very active in OIKOS Ministries, founded by her late dear friends John and Phyllis Flandreau. She married Walter R. Crowe in 1985 and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, residing there and establishing a new circle of friends until his death in 1992, after which she returned to the Delmar area where she lived the remainder of her life. She has been very active in volunteer work, through OIKOS and through St. Stephens Episcopal Church of Delmar. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist, and sang in the choirs in various congregations all through her life. She instilled her love of music in her three sons. Marjorie was a strong willed but gentle soul who lived independently in Delmar until deciding to move to the Beverwyck Retirement Community at age 95. Marjorie is survived by her three sons John C. (Pamela) Bussert of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; Bruce W. (Susanne) Bussert of Saratoga Springs NY, and Richard G. (Janet Knott) Bussert of Gloversville, NY. She is also survived by stepsons James G. (Sharon) Crowe of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and John (Pam) Crowe of Redding, California. Marjorie had 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Travelli Glenn. The family would like to thank the staff at the Beverwyck Terrace and at the Village Green at Beverwyck for their attentive and compassionate care of Marjorie over the past months. The help of Community Hospice of Albany is also greatly appreciated. A memorial service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 11:00am at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Delmar. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Marjorie's church or Community Hospice of Albany.
