Obituary of Karen Elizabeth Mailhot
HUDSON FALLS –
Karen Elizabeth Mailhot passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Glens Falls Hospital on August 3, 2023 after a brief illness.
Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire to Thomas and Margaret Mailhot, she spent her early years in Burlington before moving to Bennington. She graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School in 1983. Karen continued her education at Keene State University graduating with degrees in both English and Theatre.
She married William Busch and lived in the Boston Metro area for many years before returning to Bennington. She eventually settled in Upstate New York with her partner Scott Streeter.
Karen was extraordinarily talented. An avid reader and exceptional athlete, she excelled at gymnastics and dance in her youth. She continued to stay involved with gymnastics coaching competition girls in Massachusetts for a number of years.
Karen also had a deep love and passion for Performance Arts. Karen performed in many shows starting in high school and College. After college, she attended Vassar Theatre School to continue studying the arts. Karen went on to do numerous regional theatre shows including parts in some professional theatre productions. Karen had a strong stage presence and powerful singing voice and she especially shined in musical productions. Her last stage performance was for the Hudson River Shakespeare Company Christmas Show in 2017 in Hudson Falls, NY.
Karen will be remembered for her strong outgoing presence, fun loving sense of humor & loving and compassionate heart especially for her family and friends. She is predeceased by her father Thomas Mailhot and Brother Michael Mailhot. Surviving family includes her mother Margaret Mailhot, brothers Dennis, Chris & Ken Mailhot, nephews Kaiden & Brice Mailhot, her partner Scott Streeter as well as numerous loving cousins, aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Johns the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington, VT. Following the Mass, the family will host a gathering/visitation celebrating Karen's life in the Church Hall from 12-2pm. All are welcome to attend either event.
