Obituary of Henry J. Wells
NISKAYUNA –
Henry J. "Hank" Wells, 93, died on August 6, 2023, at Glendale Home in Schenectady County, where he had resided since December 2022.
Hank was the son of the late Henry E. and Martha (Albertin) Wells. He grew up in Ballston Spa, NY, and attended Ballston Spa High School.
Hank served in the US Army, commencing in 1951 and culminating with his honorable discharge in 1953. He moved to Schenectady in the 1960s, and, most recently, spent five years at the assisted living facility Ingersoll Place before his recent stay at Glendale.
Hank was a carpenter by trade, a 60-year member of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Local 291, where many knew him as "Hammerin' Hank." While traveling about the Capital District with family, he would often identify buildings that he had helped construct. In his later years, as a proud union member Hank could often be found participating in picket lines, accompanied by his long-time brotherhood friend, Art Secor.
Hank had a camp at Lake Desolation, where many fun-filled gatherings took place. He was an avid hunter and was often joined by like-minded friends and family hunting in the surrounding woods.
After Hank's retirement, he and his wife, Ann, enjoyed many winters in Zephyrhills, FL., where they made lasting friendships.
Hank was predeceased by his loving wife Ann, together for 36 years, sister Joyce Kugler, and daughters Joyce Zakrzewski and Patricia Allen.
Hank is survived by his daughter Dorothy Pollack (William), Karen Brown (Dean Elsworth), Rus Brown (Cathy), Jim Brown (Barbara Williams), Lori Brown, Kelly McLaughlin (Patrick), niece Judith Rappold, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
