Obituary of Stephen John Koenig

Albany- Stephen John Koenig was born July 18, 1982, in Albany, New York. He left this world on August 11, 2014, at the age of 32. He was the son of John R. Koenig of Albany, and the late Elizabeth Beckmann Koenig. Stephen was predeceased by his grandparents Bertha and Frank Koenig of Delmar. While attending Bethlehem Schools, he was an honor student who participated in the Johns Hopkins Talented Students summer program for three years, played intramural soccer, and traveled with the ski club. His great passion was computer technology. His talents began to develop around the age of ten when he attended computer fairs with his Dad. Over the years he was the technology expert for all his friends and family. He graduated from Bethlehem High School, attended Rochester Institute of Technology and received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Albany. He went on to graduate with honors from the American International College at Springfield, Massachusetts, receiving his MBA in May 2013. Stephen was generous and caring. He always had time for his friends. He would drop everything to respond to someone’s computer emergency. He loved his Opa and Oma, and was with his Oma to the very end of her life. In spite of his gifts and talents, Stephen struggled throughout his life with the challenges of an anxiety disorder. As he fought to cope with this illness, he sometimes made choices that led him away from his potential successes. In the end, the challenges were too great to overcome despite the caring support of his friends and family. Stephen leaves behind his loving friends and family, including his beloved cat Fritzl. He is greatly missed. A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date in the Fall.
