Obituary of Matthew E. Weinheimer
BALLSTON LAKE –
After a long bout with kidney disease, Matthew Eckel Weinheimer, 68 years old, has passed at his Ballston Lake, NY home surrounded by loved ones. He was the son of George and Barbara Weinheimer of Schenectady, NY and followed their example in becoming a public-school teacher and administrator. A graduate of Middlebury College, Matthew began his career teaching French and Spanish in the Rochester, NY public school system. He then continued his career in education in the Schenectady City School District. He began teaching art and later became Principal of the Arts Magnet School, Coordinator of Arts, and finished his career as Assistant Superintendent. Well known for his articulateness and determination, he also acted as chief negotiator for the Administrators Union for several years.
Matthew was highly respected and admired for his endless contributions to the Schenectady School District, but his greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his dear wife, Deborah and the four children of whom he was so proud; Danielle (Jon) Coleman, Garrett (Sarah) Weinheimer, Nora (Ryan) Jenkins, Douglas (Taylor) Weinheimer. Matthew took no greater pleasure in life than spending time with his eleven grandchildren; Willa, Eva, Ruby, Oliver, Clara, Wyatt, Calder, Wren, Sophia, Ellie, and Lukas. Matthew also took pleasure in spending summer vacations on Prince Edward Island with as many children and grandchildren as possible. Matthew will be deeply missed by all of them as well as his surviving siblings, Mark, Kurt, and Della.
