Obituary of Ronald K. Springer
ROTTERDAM -
Ronald K. Springer, 82, of Rotterdam, formerly of Valatie, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones.
The son of the late Kenneth K. and Violet (Neal) Springer, Ronald was born on August 31, 1941 in Bangor, Maine. He was raised in Bangor and has also resided in Scarborough, ME; Clifton Park, NY; Valatie, NY; Gatlinburg, TN and lastly Rotterdam, NY.
Ronald was a 1959 graduate of Bangor High School (Maine) and also furthered his education in business and professional development courses throughout his career. In 1980 he obtained a stock brokers license (Maine).
From 1959 through retirement in 2002 Mr. Springer was employed by Sampson's Supermarkets (Maine), Doug's Shop & Save (Maine) and Hannaford Brothers, Inc. During his time with Hannaford Brothers he played a distinct role in labor and government relations at local, state and federal levels in the Food Merchants Association and Department of Agriculture Markets. When Ronald retired from Hannaford, he was a District Human Resource Executive for the Northeastern Division.
In his spare time and following retirement, he was self-employed building and renovating real estate and operating vacation rentals in Maine and Tennessee.
Mr. Springer served in the Air National Guard of Maine 1959-1961 as 101 First Camron. He was a Freemason and also a Junior Achievement Mentor.
He and his wife enjoyed hobbies which included boating on their 40 foot Wooden Chris Craft and traveling. His other hobbies included building model trains, watching NASCAR races, traveling in their motorhome, and woodworking. After retirement he volunteered at American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Springer was the rock of his family providing love, security and advice to 3 daughters, a son-in-law and 2 granddaughters. He also enjoyed spending time with special friends and engaging in deep conversation with people of all cultures and walks of life.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Georgia A Springer, whom he married on May 17, 1980 in Bangor, Maine. Also surviving are daughters Rhonda K. Springer of Johnsonville, NY and Danielle Montagna and son-in-law Joseph of Wynantskill, NY. Ronald was the cherished grandfather of Tangia Warren of Macon, GA and Georgianna Montagna of Wynantskill, NY. Ronald is also survived by his brother, Lawrence Springer of Bangor, Maine, sister-in-law Lorraine (Springer) McDonald of Derry, NH and in-laws: Rufus and Roberta Sands, Dana Sands, Truman and (Vickie) Sands, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was predeceased by a daughter Cheryl (Springer) Warren, his sisters and their spouses; Helen and Gerald Yerxa, Donna and Richard Russell, his brothers and their spouses; Ralph Springer and Vaughn (Buzzie) and Mary Springer. As his wife is the youngest of 19 siblings, Ronald has many sister/ brother-in-laws who are also now predeceased.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc.
The Springer Family has chosen to honor Ronald’s memory in private.
