Obituary of Sky Alexandre Lemmons-Dixon
ALBANY -
Sky Alexandre Lemmons-Dixon was born on April 23, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada where she was adopted by Cheryl Lemmons, a psychiatrist and neurologist working at the various hospitals in Las Vegas. At the age of 3, Sky moved with her older sister and her mother to Los Angeles California. Sky attended Lycée International de Los Angeles elementary school, where she was known for her energetic personality, and her love of adventure.
At 10 years old, Sky and the family moved to Onset, MA where they lived with her beloved grandmother Dorothy Frauenhofer. On August 6, 2011 Sky lost her mother to breast cancer and moved to NYC to join her aunt, uncle and cousins.
Sky attended school in NYC and finished high school at the Charlton School in Burnt Hills, New York. Charlton School is known for incorporating equine therapy as part of their holistic learning program. Given her lifelong attachment to animals, Sky excelled at Charlton and was known as a leader on campus among her peers. Sky developed a particular love of horses and worked at a rescue facility for animals that had been abused. Sky often cared for the most challenging animals with love and patience.
Sky will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her great sense of humor and her ability to make everyone around her laugh. She was delightful, playful and kind. Sky was a fantastic cook and drew people in with her hospitality and helpfulness. She was dearly loved by her family and will be missed.
Sky was also fragile and vulnerable. Though she had a turbulent last few years as a victim of domestic violence and drug abuse, Sky was full of potential and working hard to rebuild her future. We ask that people donate in Sky’s name and in honor of all young women who are exploited to SNUG Albany, an anti-violence non-profit, Urban Grief, Trinity Alliance of the Capitol Region and The Charlton School.
Sky is survived by her sister, step-sisters, her loving aunt and uncle and her cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Cheryl Lemmons. Sky is also survived by her birth parents and numerous birth brothers and sisters.
Special thanks to the medical staff in the ICU Unit at Albany Medical Center, the Charlton School and all the family, friends, and colleagues who have provided support during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. and arrangements are private at the convenience of her family.
