Obituary of Bruce Phillip Burgess
GLOVERSVILLE –
Bruce P. Burgess of Gloversville, NY, born May 25, 1951, to James Burgess and Jean Mitchell Burgess in Cohoes, NY, and raised in Watervliet, NY, peacefully passed away on February 20, 2024 at the age of 72 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Bruce was enlisted in the Navy where he served as an OMA service technician. Following his honorable service, Bruce resided in Australia for several years before returning to New York.
He spent the majority of his career at Mohawk River Leather Works in Fultonville. He furthered his education, earning an associate’s degree from FMCC.
Bruce's true passion was his stained glass work. He poured his heart into creating exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces, including windows, lamps, and jewelry boxes. Each was a testament to his creativity and talent. Under the business name of Classic Glass, Bruce shared his artistry with the world, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and craftsmanship to be cherished for generations.
Beyond his artistic pursuits, Bruce had a deep love for animals and enjoyed birdwatching, finding solace and enjoyment in the natural world around him.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, James and Jean Burgess, and nephew Adam C. Burgess. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Burgess of Seattle, WA, and grandson Atlas Bailey, along with siblings James Robert (Joan) Burgess of East Berne, William C. (Patricia) Burgess of Clifton Park, Les C. (Betty) Burgess of Mt. Vision, Kathleen J. (Martin) Nash of Troy, and Elaine C. (John) Quell of Malta. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Bruce’s caretaker, Kim Schrader, and his friend, Mike Prumo, for their unwavering support and compassion during his final years.
While Bruce's physical presence may be gone, it will persist through his artwork and in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc.
Bruce’s interment will be alongside his parents in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
