Obituary of Joseph Vincent Lewis
WATERVLIET –
Joseph V. Lewis, 86, of Watervliet, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home on March 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
The son of the late Joseph and Marie (Markward) Lewis, he was born on July 17, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. Following his graduation from St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia, Joseph served in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1959, receiving an honorable discharge. He then joined the Philadelphia Police Department in February 1960, moving onto the New York State Police in 1962 and retired as a Senior Investigator in 1989, a career he truly enjoyed.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida where he worked as an investigator for Progressive Insurance until 1999. Joseph and Ann returned to the Capital District in 2001 and have enjoyed retirement.
Joseph is survived by his wife Ann (Zinzow) Lewis, daughters, Janice Lewis of Watervliet, NY, Diane Jones (Donald) of Falls Church, VA, Patricia Lewis, (David Tomasko) of Tampa, Florida and stepdaughters: Luecinda Chenette (Walter) of Latham, NY, and Medea Shields (Ted) of East Greenbush, NY.
He is also survived by his sister, Marie Lewis Greene of New Hope, PA, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by sister, Eleanor Carpenter of Philadelphia, PA.
At Joseph’s request, there will be no calling hours and services will be held at the convenience of the family.
