Yet another page torn out of the book of my youth.
Some of the fondest memories of my life was during the time spent at your house on Elk St. back in the early 1970s. It was nonstop laughter and fun. Michael, you were one of the toughest kids I ever knew in my life and I was happy to be your cousin. I want your children to know exactly how tough you were, and I will share what I witnessed with my own two eyes. I attended Milne High School, which was right next-door to Philip Schuyler Elementary where you were a student. School let out around the same time for you and I and we were walking down Lake Ave. towards our neighborhoods. You were way up ahead and you were running chasing a few boys or girls and you had your head turned at full stride. Without realizing it, your face smacked squarely into the banister of a porch extended onto the sidewalk in front of you. Instantly your face and lips were bloodied with your teeth damaged. You picked yourself up, wiped your face and continued walking. You NEVER flinched, you NEVER even cried. At that moment, I knew you were made of a different metal..
