Joan Langan

Obituary of Joan R. Langan

NISKAYUNA –

Joan R. Langan, 87, of Niskayuna, formerly of Halfmoon, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on July 22, 2024. Her loving family that meant the world to her, was at her side.

She was born on February 12, 1937 in Kingston, PA. Daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine (Pascavage) Tengowski.  Joan was raised in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and received her education from Larksville High School (class of 1954).

Shortly following her graduation, Joan was engaged and united in marriage to the late Lawrence John “Jack” Langan on December 26, 1956. The couple were happily married for 47 years until Jack’s passing on March 2, 2004. A part of Joan was lost the day Jack died.

In 1956 the couple relocated to Detroit, MI so Jack could continue his studies. Joan worked in an office while Jack attended college in Detroit and earned the honorary “P-H-T” degree (Put Hubby Through). Joan and Jack relocated to Whitesboro, NY and settled there for a time. They then relocated to Oklahoma City, OK and settled there, but returned to Whitesboro to raise their children. They remained in Whitesboro until retirement. Once retired, they moved to Halfmoon to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Joan was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family mending and sewing dresses for her daughters and enjoyed cooking meals. In her quiet time, Joan was an avid reader. She also enjoyed playing card games, Bridge and jigsaw puzzles. She almost always had a puzzle going in these past few years. But most of all she valued the time spent with her loved ones.

Loving mother of: David (Jeannette) Langan, Nancy (Charlie) Palmer, Joyce (Scott) LaRosa.

Cherished grandmother of: Sonya Langan, Kristen (Nicholas) Strock, Joseph Langan (Lauren Fish), Alexander “Sergey” Palmer (Mark Patti), Christopher and Benjamin LaRosa, and great grandmother of Hunter Strock.
