Obituary of Helena Rose Chaussee-Payne
JOHNSTOWN –
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helena Rose Chaussee-Payne, who passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born on September 13, 1946, in Island Falls, Maine, she grew up in Island Falls and later moved to Johnstown, NY. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her three children, Laurie Van-Duyne (formerly Chaussee), William Chaussee, Sr., and Alan Chaussee, Sr.
Helena lived a fulfilling life, enjoying reading books and solving crossword puzzles in her free time. She had a vibrant spirit that shone brightest when she was weaving humor into the fabric of everyday conversations. Her love for joking was infectious, often catching those around her in a web of laughter. Sarcasm was her art form, a tool she wielded with the precision of a master, adding layers of wit and irony to her interactions that made even the mundane moments memorable. Her friends cherished this about her, knowing that wherever she was, a playful twist on reality was never far behind.
Helena was a kind and generous soul, always putting others' needs before her own. Her love and compassion extend to all those who know her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile and warm personality.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Van-Duyne (Richard), along with her three grandchildren, Billy, Lauren, and Alyssa, and three great-grandchildren. Helena leaves behind her eldest son, William Chaussee Sr. (Janice), his four children, William Jr., Oakley, Gabrielle, and Paxton, and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, Helena is survived by her youngest son, Alan Chaussee Sr., his three children, Samantha, Laurie, and Alan Jr., and one great-grandchild.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Casandra Bayes, Helena's favorite niece, for her unwavering presence. Her love and kindness will forever be cherished in our memories.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral services will be held in her memory. Instead, she expressed a desire for simplicity and a return to nature, choosing a serene and final resting place. Her remains will be returned to her cherished Maine., where the waves could carry her spirit to the far corners of the ocean she so loved. This act will be a private affair for those closest to her, honoring her life in a place she found beautiful and tranquil.
Rest peacefully, beloved mother. Your presence will eternally echo in our hearts and through our memories.
