Obituary of Denise Marie Sutherland
Colonie, NY-
Denise Marie Sutherland, 61, of Colonie, passed away on September 6, 2015. She was born in Charleston, SC, to the late Robert and Shirley (Young) Antaya. Denise spent her childhood across many states being the daughter of a navy sailor. The family settled down in Scotia, NY where Denise would attend high school and graduate.
After receiving her associate’s degree from Schenectady Community College, Denise spent most of her career as a nurse, and she was a volunteer for the Ballston Spa EMS. Prior to retirement Denise had opened and founded the Village Coffee House in Scotia NY. She loved to talk and meet new people, owning the coffee house was a perfect niche for her to spend her time. Denise was an advocate for helping others, she volunteered often at churches, shelters, and food pantries.
Denise shall be remembered as a loving, caring and thoughtful person, she always wanted to help others. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. Denise loved to travel being overnight or just taking a Sunday drive, she had discovered a love for county music, the past few years she attended every concert in the area.
Denise is survived by her only child (son) Robert (Denise) Podbielski and two grandchildren: Elizabeth and Evan, whom she adored. Anybody who knew Denise, knew her grandchildren, she never stopped talking about them.
Denise is survived by her husband Joseph Sheehan with whom she spent the last 12 years with. Joe’s two sons Conor and Nick. Denise has many surviving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A service will be held in Denise’s honor on September 26th at 9AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road in Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
