Obituary of Virginia L. Heaphy

Virginia L. Heaphy (Crehan) born on July 11, 1924 entered peacefully into her Lord's Kingdom on June 16, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Crehan and is predeceased by her loving husband Bill. She is survived by her devoted and loving care giving son Robert, Latham, New York, her beloved son William III (Carmen) of Cohoes, New York and her loving daughter Jacqueline (Robert S. Rex) Schodack, New York. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Travis, William IV, Cheryl, Lori, Brian and Tracey and nine great grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Amanda, Lauren, Nicholas, Brandon, Kyle, Samantha, Bryson and Sophia her adorable cat who gave her much pleasure. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Poole and the late Barbara Richmond. A special appreciation is sent to her friend Linda who filled many hours with her reading the Bible and talking about the Lord. A special thank you also to her neighbors Marsha, Anne and Lou who were there for her if she needed something, especially Marsha. Virginia or "Ginny" worked at Fanny's Restaurant in Latham for many years. She had many customers who would only want to be waited on by her as she always treated them special. After her husband passed away, she spent a lot of her time either going to the "Little Store" as she called it in Clifton Park where she loved to stop or sometimes go to the racino. Strangers would come up to her and an immediate conversation would start as if they were old friends. She loved her family and always wanted nothing but the best for them. She loved talking to the Lord and always carried him in her heart. She shared her beliefs and prayers with all of us. Though she suffered with so much pain from arthritis and back problems, she rarely complained or wanted sympathy because she spent too much time worrying about other people. All through her life she was a very compassionate, giving person. She was a very strong person and many times bounced back from serious health problems. She always attributed that to her never ending faith in the Lord. She was the best mom anyone could have....always there, always caring. She was a lucky lady in many ways. Her birth date of July 11th (7/11) were her lucky numbers. She suffered a brain aneurysm in 1993 and survived the odds. She never forgot birthdays and always called with her little birthday songs which she always made up on the spot and made you laugh. One of her favorite sayings was "that's the way the cookie crumbles" when something would happen. She loved hearing about the activities of her grandchildren...from horseback riding, dancing, gymnastics, baseball, hockey, softball..whatever they may be doing. She loved family gatherings and looked forward to Christmas in particular. She did manage to go to Easter dinner this year and had a wonderful day. She enjoyed celebrating her birthday at her granddaughter Lori's camp. She also managed to attend our Saratoga Horse Race reunion last year hosted by Billy. We would always get in a circle, hold hands and she would say a prayer for us and end with the Lords Prayer. She loved her animals too...in particular her dogs ChuChu, Tasha and Bullet. She loved to train them....even got them to sneeze on command She was in bed number 31 in the hospital. Our dad's police motorcycle number was 31. Coincidence...I think not. Dad came for her. Her strong desire to stay at home came true thanks to the devotion of her children Billy and Jackie and most important of all her son Robert who cared for her unselfishly for many years until she passed away and made sure she would never go to a nursing home! She knew nothing about facebook but would be so pleased to see so many of you expressed your condolences for this special lady. At her request, there will be no memorial service. On a nice sunny day she and her husband Bill, her soul mate, will be brought to Saratoga National Cemetery where they will be laid to rest and joined together forever. Where there will be a private service for the family.
