Obituary of Richard E. Spohr
Spohr, Richard (Dick) Edwin
Altamont, New York\
Richard (Dick) Spohr, 87, of Altamont, beloved husband of Adella (Dell) Walsh Spohr, went home to be with his Lord on August 22, 2017.
Together they enjoyed 60 years of marriage and built a family which included 3 daughters ~ Susan Anne (d. 1979), Erica Terese (d. 1962 in infancy) and Carla Margaret. He found great joy in the company of his son-in-law Terry Jones, his beloved grandchildren Spencer and Audrey Jones, and his many friends.
Son of the late George and Olive (Neu) Spohr and brother to Olive Liguore (d.), Georgiana Armond, Jane Huber, Robert Spohr (d.), Donald Spohr, Thomas Spohr (d.) and James Spohr.
Together with his bride whom he met while both attended Ithaca College, Dick settled in Altamont in 1957 where he was a physical education teacher and coach in the Guilderland Central School District for 33 years, retiring in 1990. “Coach” was known and loved by many for his kind and gentle spirit, his joyful sense of humor and his smile which came so easily.
A public memorial celebration will take place in the coming weeks. Dell and Carla wish to extend our gratitude to the community of Creekside and the myriad of friends, family and strangers alike who have been of extraordinary support throughout our journey to return Dick safely home. Words cannot express what it has meant to each of us.
Please join us for Coach's Memorial Celebration on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 5 PM at the Orchard Creek Golf Course in Altamont.
