Obituary of Richard Bernard Norton
Richard Bernard Norton, 80, passed away, Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Daniel and Marie Norton. His proudest achievement was as the loving and devoted father of Emily and Christopher Norton and grandfather of Gabriel Sand.
A graduate of Providence College, Richard attended Catholic University Law School and was a US Army veteran. He served in various management positions with the New York State Department of Labor and Division of Housing and was executive director of the statewide Private Industry Council and Massachusetts Manufacturers Housing Association before retiring in 2008.
Richard was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player and had recently become an enthusiastic and accomplished bridge player. His volunteer activities have included the Franklin Community Center, Family Mediator with the Saratoga Mediation Center, lay lector at St. Clement’s Church, Saratoga Golf and Polo Club Board of Managers, Saratoga Hospice and administrator of youth sports leagues, Secretary of Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School, Founder of Niskayuna Interscholastic Hockey Team and President of the Bromley Village Association in Vermont.
Richard is survived by daughter, Emily Norton (Casey Sand) and grandson, Gabriel Sand of Tappan, NY; son Christopher Norton (Kathleen Neville) of Salem, MA and sister, Judith Keith (Ray Spiecker) of Gloucester, MA.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 14 at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY.
