Obituary of Betty J. Engineri
Troy, NY
Betty Uline Engineri died at Albany Medical Center, at age 90. on August 15, 2018, after suffering a stroke a few days earlier. Betty, a leap year baby, was born in Troy, NY, February 29, 1928, to Elizabeth and Donald Uline.
Betty graduated from Troy High School in 1945 and then earned a
teaching degree from the New York State College for Teachers. She later
completed her master's degree in Remedial Reading at Russell Sage College in
Troy. Betty taught grade school in the Troy School District and later was a
reading specialist in the Waterford Halfmoon School district. She also tutored
children in reading at her home.
Betty married Paul Engineri, a piano and organ teacher, on June 28, 1949. They
raised their family and lived in the home Betty designed for them at 2 Wendell
Ave. in Troy. Over the years, Betty and her family shared many happy
gatherings with the extended Uline family that included her parents and her
three younger sisters; Phyllis (John) Palitsch, of Hopkinton, MA, Virginia (Gordon-deceased) Knippel of Waterfort CT, and Marilyn (Doug) Hasbrouck of Glenmont NY, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Betty loved to travel and eventually visited all 50 states. After her
children were grown; she and Paul enjoyed traveling to several foreign
countries. Betty was also an accomplished oil painter and avid reader. In
retirement Betty and Paul lived for over a decade in Black Mountain, NC. They later
resided in an in- law apartment with their son and daughter-in-law on Cayuga
Lake. A special thanks to Allie and Karen for their attention to both
Paul and Betty during their time there.
Paul and Betty ultimately shared 66 years of love, marriage, family, music,
and travel, before Paul's passing in February, 2016. Betty then moved back to
Troy to be near her daughter. After Paul died, Betty cherished and so enjoyed
listening to music tapes he had recorded of her favorite songs.
Betty is also survived by her son Paul (Tricia) Engineri of Interlaken, NY,
daughter Beth (Raymond) Coblish of Troy; grandchildren: Kyle LaFountain (Kathy
Poore) of Troy, Amy LaFountain-Watson (David) of Menands, Megan LaFountain of
Troy, P. Mathew (Cristin) Engineri of Minoa NY, and Justin (Villy) Engineri of
Schenectady. Betty also leaves behind six great grandchildren: Codey
Aboff-Engineri serving in the Marines in California, Cadey Jo and P. Casey
Engineri of Minoa, NY and Ayden, Jalissa, and Wyatt Engineri of Schenectady.
For the last year and a half of her life, Betty received exemplary care,
concern, and attention from the staff at house #6 at the Eddy Village Green in
Cohoes. They became a second family who quickly came to know her needs and
preferences. They always worked with Betty with professionalism and patience.
With her many medical needs and limited vision, Betty could not have been in a
better place, and for that, her family is extremely grateful.
No calling hours or services are planned. Immediate family will be
gathering for interment of her ashes beside her beloved husband Paul at Oakwood
Cemetery.
