Obituary
Obituary of John D. Lamoureux
John Lamoureux of Delmar, NY died on Sunday, January 1 after a long
struggle with cancer at Diamond Hill Nursing Home and Rehabilitation
Center in Troy, NY. He will be remembered for his gentle, caring
nature and "go with the flow" attitude toward life.
John was born on January 31, 1948 in Newport, VT to Roland and Alberta
Prive Lamoureux. He went to Sacred Heart Schools and was active in
Boy Scouts, where he was the bugler, and was first chair trumpet in
the High School Band. He was also active in Chorus, Drama, Radio Club
and worked on the school newspaper in his Senior year. He graduated
in 1965. While living in Newport, he worked at Montgomery Wards and
played guitar in a local band. He also liked to fish, play soccer and
kick the can.
After graduation from High School, John spent a short time in
Burlington, VT, then moved to Lyndonville, VT. He worked at a local
gas station and a W.T. Grants store and continued to play music with
friends in a band called "Sonic White." One summer he worked in
Mallet's Bay, VT at a restaurant. He studied at Lyndon State College
and received a B.A. degree in Behavioral Science in May of 1971.
His first job after college was at Vermont Tobacco in Newport, VT, but
then he moved to Burlington, VT, and from there to Plattsburgh, NY
working for the Big L Drug Store. He enrolled in the State University
of New York at Plattsburgh and received a Master of Arts in Liberal
Studies in May of 1987. He loved psychology and continued to read
extensively in this area. After studying at Plattsburgh, John taught
entry-level classes at Clinton Community College and worked for a
crisis center. John also enjoyed skiing and ice skating, teaching ice
skating lessons while in Plattsburgh.
He landed a job with the Press Republican newspaper and worked there
for 14 years, a job that he absolutely loved. As an Editorial
Assistant, he designed graphics/maps for features/news stories, wrote
"Week in Review," "Astronomy" and "Science Quiz" and provided computer
assistance to staff. In 1992, he earned two Editor's Awards for
graphics published on May 24 and Aug 17.
He was married in 1992 to Monique McBride and soon after, their son,
Andrew, was born. From the day of his birth, Andrew became the center
of John's life. Although John and Monique were divorced in 2003, he
continued to spend as much time as he could with his son. Andrew
inherited his father's love of psychology, astronomy, music, and
reading. They went to many plays, musicals, and classical concerts
together.
The family moved to the Albany area in the fall of 1997. John found
employment at Test-Com, and later at Matthew Bender as a Technical
Support Specialist. He began to take computer courses and became a MS
Certified Professional in 2002 and was certified in Network
Management, Security and Infrastructure in 2005. John found that he
loved computers, networks and databases. He worked at Siemens
Business Corp, and DocStar. His last employment was with Keane, Inc.
where he worked at the NY State Lottery providing technical assistance
in both hardware and software issues.
John is survived by his son, Andrew, of Delmar, NY, and four sisters:
Rolande Moore of Manchester, NH; Paulette Turcotte and her husband,
Roger, of Ft. Myers, FL; Pauline Kelley and her husband, Dean, of
Enterprise, AL; and Diane Ciba and her husband, Michael, of Watertown,
