Obituary of Richard William Howie

ALTAMONT- Richard William Howie, 86, of Altamont, formerly of Bloomfield, Ct., passed away at Albany Medical Center on June 2, 2021. Born in Queens, NY on April 19, 1935, Richard was the son of the late William Simpson and Gladys Ann (Riddle) Howie. Richard was raised in Queens and has resided in Allendale, NJ, Bronx, NY, Altamont, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore, MD, Middletown, PA, Altamont, NY, Bloomfield, Ct. and lastly Altamont, NY. Richard received his education and graduated from Ramsey High School, Ramsey, NJ. He was employed as a Licensed Air Frame and Power Point Aeronautical Mechanic for US Airways Mr. Howie served in the US Navy as a medic and then assigned to the US Marine Corps from 1954-1958. Memberships include the Altamont Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder, Community Caregivers as a Volunteer and served on the Board of Directors at the Altamont Free Library. Mr. Howie was also a Volunteer with the Institute of Cultural Affairs, Ecumenical Institute, Order: Ecumenical. Richard loved dancing, sitting at the beach all day, chips and ice cream, spending time with family and friends, singing in Altamont Reformed Church Virtual Choir. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Elizabeth (Ferry) Howie, whom he married on September 13, 1958 in Ramsey, NJ. Loving father of Anne Louis ( Frank Mercede), James Michael ( Claudia Borrero) and Ruth Katharine ( John Hammons). Cherished grandfather of Michael, Maryanne, Christine, Sarah, Alexandria and Holly. Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister Shirley and his brother Bill. The family wishes to thank everyone for their support and love shown to Richard. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Richard's Memorial Service at 10 o'clock, Saturday June 26th at Altamont Reformed Church, 29 Lincoln Ave, Altamont, NY 12009. In Lieu of flowers: Donations can be made to Altamont Free Library, Community Caregivers or the Altamont Reformed Church.
