Obituary of William Boyd DeLanney
ALBANY-
William (Bill) Boyd DeLanney, 76, of Albany, passed away on June 1, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
The son of the late Leo and Rose (Jarmon) DeLanney, William was born on March 24, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas and was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. Besides his parents, his sister Gail (DeLanney) Slater, brothers, Gene Leo DeLanney, and Michael Jarmon DeLanney predeceased William.
He was the husband of 52 years to Gail (MacCallum) DeLanney of Albany. In addition to his wife, William is survived by his children: Mara (DeLanney) Clark and Blake Boyd DeLanney (Kate). His grandchildren: Payden Daniel Clark, Emily Rose Clark, Milena Katharine DeLanney and Hudson Boyd DeLanney. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
An honorably discharged veteran, William served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman from 1964-1968. For William’s service, he received a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In 1969, his love of photography took off when he began his career working for Look Magazine in New York City. After a move to Dallas, Texas in the early 70s, he worked as a photographer with an ad agency and at two local Dallas studios. This passion would later result in his work shared in many gallery shows and displayed at many local businesses throughout the Albany/Schenectady, New York area.
After a move to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1976 and joining his sister Gail’s real estate company, Slater and Co., he soon made a name for himself. Many achievements included Shreveport Realtor Associate of the Year 1979, President of the Highland Restoration Association, and appointment to the City of Shreveport Citizens Advisory Council 1980. William continued his real estate career as Vice President of Marketing for Beal Locke and Associates, Shreveport, Louisiana; Director of New Home Sales, Serls Prime Properties, Lagrangeville New York and retired from Masullo Builders as Marketing Director in Rotterdam, New York.
Our dear husband, father and grandfather lived in the moment. He appreciated and took in every moment of every day. His children were always guided with his words “good decisions”. This will forever be in their hearts and passed to their children. He practiced random acts of kindness that we will never know, he did them not for recognition, but because he cared. A true Southern gentleman.
No matter what health obstacle came his way, he faced them with optimism and the mantra “Life is Good”. His writings will forever inspire us and his spiritual beliefs will carry us through, as we know he is always with his family.
With our hearts forever grateful to St. Peter’s Hospital for guiding him and his family through his passing.
Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A celebration of William’s life will be held on June 18th at 1pm at 7131 Rt-28, Shandaken NY 12480. Internment with full military honors will take place at Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of William to St. Jude or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, his favorite charities.
