Obituary of A. Marie Dickens
LATHAM –
A. Marie (McCullough) Dickens, 100, of Latham, formerly of East Kingston, entered into rest on June 30, 2022, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her loving family. As Marie declined with Dementia her daughter ensured that she stayed at home and was well taken care of for over 16 years.
Born during a snowstorm on February 19, 1922, in East Kingston, New York, as Alice Marie McCullough, she was known by family and friends as Marie. Marie was the daughter of the late Thomas († age 92) and Alice (Pierce) McCullough († age 102). She was the eldest child out of six children.
Mom enjoyed traveling to Wildwood, N.J., annually and walking on “the boards”. She also loved going out to eat and late-night spontaneous adventures. She enjoyed “people watching” and going to the movies and watching horror films with her grandsons Curtis and Dan. Marie was a former communicant of the Franciscan Chapel in the Northway Mall on Wolf Road in Colonie.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann Horton (George Gottsammer), of Latham, as well as her grandsons (they were the light of her life) Daniel M. Horton and Curtis J. (Deborah) Horton. Marie was blessed with great grandchildren: Christopher and Zachary, Trevor, Owen and Zoey Marie.
She is also survived by her siblings: Francis McCullough (of Allentown, PA) and Edward McCullough (of Woodstock, NY). Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband Daniel N. Dickens who passed away on April 19th, 1981, as well as siblings: Robert McCullough, Joan (McCullough) Steegmuller and Irene McCullough.
Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A celebration of life will be held privately by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Marie by making a donation in her memory to either your local Humane Society or Community Hospice.
The family would like to thank so many people who helped Marie in her final days, especially: Christina Palin, Valara Gibson and Cheryl Walther, who brought our mom a smile each day and made her quality of life better with their loving presence. A special thank you to the Community Hospice, their support was and is truly wonderful.
