Obituary of Carolyn J. Micklas

SCHENECTADY – Carolyn J. Micklas, 83, of Schenectady, entered into rest on September 1, 2022, at the Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady. The daughter of the late Michael W. and Audria M. (Lattrell) Micklas, Carolyn was born on October 31, 1938, in Mechanicville, New York, and made Schenectady, New York her home. Ms. Micklas was formerly employed by Planned Parenthood, Ellis Hospital and Union College. She served on the Schenectady City School Board, Schenectady City Inner Ministries, First United Methodist Church, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother, as well as many other volunteer roles. She was a natural leader and often took the lead in her volunteer roles. Carolyn was a good friend to all and loved her friends dearly (and she had many). Her cherished friends Ruth Farrell, Melanie Kaiser and Judy Peck were close to her heart right until the end. Carolyn was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and belonged to a choir most of her life. Survivors include her daughters: Luanne Broadstreet and Barbara Downs, her step-daughters: Pamela Jones, and Leslie Jones. Her grandchildren: Nathaniel W. Neander, Richard W. Simmons, Dr. Stephanie (Chip) Downs-Canner, Tiffany (Nick) Pandora, Joseph LaNigra, Jr., Amy (David) Kriesel, Katrina (Richard) Kufta, Louis Kiernan, and Michael L. LaNigra, Jr. She was the great grandmother of eight great-grandchildren and aunt to: two nieces and one nephew who also survive. Besides her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, N. Daniel Jones, and her sons: Michael L., Louis E., Joseph C., and Richard A. As well as her brother, Michael W. Micklas Jr. of Hull, MA, and her sister Alona M. (Robert) of Pensacola FL. A special “Thank You” and sincere gratitude from the family to: Melanie Kaiser, Judy Peck and Ruth Farrell for their support and friendship to the very end. Thank You to: The Schenectady County Community Hospice workers who made sure she was well cared for and comfortable until the end. Thank You to the nurses and staff at Ellis Residential Center who took such wonderful care of her and ensured she was treated with loving care and dignity throughout her residence. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church of Schenectady at a date and time to be determined by the family. Inurnment of Carolyn’s Cremains will take place within the FUMC Columbarium in Schenectady.
